Does anyone have any experience finding somewhere local that would etch some wine glasses for a themed party I'm having in a week? Either I buy glasses and bring them in, or it's fine with me if they sell the glasses as well. I know its short notice.
I really wanted that little shop called DangerAwesome in Central Square to do this, but I think they are only into lasering stuff, not etching/sandblasting.

I have no idea about etching, I'm sorry -- but thought I'd mention, depending on what kind of wine glasses you're looking for: a few days ago, perfectly passable white-or-dessert-wine/champagne glasses were 25c at IKEA in Stoughton.

Of course, the vehicle expenditures to get there and back might cancel out any benefit. But hey! I mentioned!

By "local," do you mean locally-owned/not-a-chain, or just somewhere physically local that you can walk into?

If the latter is okay, there's a Things Remembered store at the Cambridgeside Galleria. They definitely do lettering or monogramming, not sure about graphics or designs. But they do at least have the equipment to etch onto wine glasses. So...maybe a starting point, and if they can't do exactly what you want, they might have a suggestion?

Not local, but fast.

Not local, but fast:

I ordered a whole bunch of etched glasses for Christmas presents from http://www.etsy.com/shop/EtchaliciousDesigns.

I put in the orders on Wednesday, she put them in the mail on Thursday. I can't remember what day exactly they arrived, but the shipping was quick.

I can't recommend her highly enough- the work I received was very pretty and well done. She also caught an error I made, and corrected it for me. She offered gift-wrapping for free, and since I was getting a couple of people similar things, she even wrote out the tags for me based on the names I had etched on each item, so they wouldn't get mixed up after they were wrapped. It was a very conscientious and personalized experience.

They came shipped by each glass being well cushioned by newspaper, all sealed in a box. Then that box was well cushioned by newspaper and placed in a larger box for shipping. None of my items arrived broken, and her policy is if anything arrives broken, you have the option of a replacement or a refund.

I should note the wine glasses she uses are very large! My white wine glass holds like, half a wine bottle.

If you get in touch with her tonight, you might have some chance of getting them in time, depending on how many glasses you need and how custom the designs need to be. If you ask, she may be willing to ship them overnight? It'll likely cost you, though I think it's worth it as her glasses and shipping were priced lower than all the other sellers I found. She was very quick in responding to all my queries, though of course now she might be asleep even with the time difference.

Anyway, I hope that things work out!

aside from PVC and polycarbonate, danger!awesome can engrave on anything. Well, anything that will fit in their laser. but glasses totally would.

I also have no comment about etching, but wanted to shout out for DangerAwesome. My husband had them laser cut some wood to make a sign for me for Xmas, and they did an awesome job!

My friends have had laser-engraving done on glasses and it looks at least as good as more-traditionally etched pieces I've seen.

There were some etched wine glasses in the window of the Mudflat Gallery in Porter last time I walked by. They might be able to put you in touch with the artist, at least.

Worth talking to DangerAwesome, I think, since they're friendly and can often tell you where to go for things that they aren't able to do themselves.

Do it yourself with some glass etching cream! I think you can get a jar of the stuff for under $20. I've never done it though, so you'll probably want to do some research / ask someone at the art supply store etc.
