Catholic Church Fish Fry?

So growing up in PA almost every catholic church hosted a fish fry on Fridays during lent. I've really been craving going to one (don't know what's in the batter but it always tends to be the best fried fish). Do any of the Catholic churches (or any other denominations) do Friday Fish Frys in the area? I looked on the websites for St. Catherine's, Ann's and Joseph's and didn't see anything.

I just moved from Somerville back to Pittsburgh, and was laughing at how many fish fries I've seen advertised. I was gone for 12 years; I forgot about that.

I'm sorry to say, though, that I'm not much help because I'm not really a fan, so I never sought any out in the Boston area. But it seems like with the number of Catholics in the area, there should at least be some, right? Even if they're not advertised as incessantly.

And... I guess posts like this are why I haven't unsubscribed from this comm yet. ha. Good luck!

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. In my little PA town growing up they were generally held at the volunteer fireman's hall every week, I think. Only went a couple of times but I remember it being awfully tasty. Sorry I don't have any useful information re: local fish fries, but I wanted to thank you for the memory all the same :)

As someone who grew up in Massachusetts and who was raised Catholic, it's not something I've ever encountered here, even in the fishing communities.

Ya, I'm beginning to realize this seems to be a western PA thing. It's a shame, it's so yummy & Mrs. Van de Kamps just doesn't compare.

I asked a formerly-local friend who is a devout Catholic about this and he said he'd never seen one. I bet you could rouse up a dinner mob at a seafood place sometime, though, if you wanted.
