Did anyone else hear 7 or 8 loud, sharp gunshot-like sounds a few minutes ago? I hope they were just firecrackers, but I called 911 just in case. I'm at Orchard and Day streets, and had my windows open.

Ron--

Per an online radio scanner, Somerville PD dispatched a patrol car to the area of 18 Day Street at 12:10 a.m. to investigate:

Dispatcher: In the area of one-eight Day Street, got a report of shots. He heard six or seven popping sounds. It could possibly be fireworks. Again, in the area of 18 Day Street.

Unit West 6: Yes, sir, when we were getting the cars ready we did see some fireworks over by the Cambridge line. We'll check it out.

The responding officers found nothing amiss and attributed the noise to the pyros they had seen earlier.

(At 2:30 a.m., a neighbor's complaint about a loud party brought the cops back to 18 Day. Unable to gain entrance and hearing no disturbance from outside the building, they concluded that the report was unfounded.)

What do you use for an online radio scanner? I've been using an iphone app "5-0 radio police scanner free" when I want to listen in when I'm not near home, but I wouldn't mind a plain old web interface.

I know this is old, but I just got back in from out of town and am catching up on old posts. I use radioreference.com pretty regularly to listen to scanner feeds. Here's their database: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/

Why don't I see the above comment and its two replies if I'm not logged in?

Ron and rmd--

I used the way-cool Rangecast online scanner that let's you simultaneously monitor Somerville and Cambridge police and fire radio communications as well as retrieve and replay past transmissions. Here's the link at WL's Somerville site (http://scanner.wickedlocal.com/metro/somerville.php).

I retrieved the transmissions around 2:50 a.m. EDT but didn't immediately post the info here. (Fyi, a quick search suggests that for $15 you can access archived Somerville police and fire audio feed transmissions going back one month.)

Yep, sorry--that new thread was an accident caused by my having too many tabs, windows, and conversations open at one time.
