if you park there to go to the union square farmers market - i'd advise against it from now on. the tow guy said its in their contract to tow on off hours from now on too.
That seems a bit condescending. I'd be very surprised if Citizens hasn't encountered this situation before at any of their branches. I suspect they have well considered the issues already -- there may well be other concerns (e.g., liability, insurance, maintenance) involved.
Regardless of whether Mimi (or some other Union Square Main Streets person) needs to 'condescend' in order to put the message across, Citizens needs to know that their actions are harmful to every other business in Union Square. If they don't stop towing cars, businesses should consider moving their money out of Citizens and into a local bank.
I guess I don't understand the sense of entitlement that seems to be implied here. Sure, if it is practicable it would be a nice gesture for Citizens to let people use their parking lot outside of business hours. But it may not be -- I can imagine lots of reasons why that might be the case. Perhaps we should get more information before advocating boycotts.
And they're certainly not obligated to the public and other businesses to make their private property available for public use when they're not using it. (I certainly don't feel that way about my property.) You seem to imply there's something wrong with asserting the right to do what you want with your property if someone else can benefit from it. Does this mean I can use your bike when you're not on it? :)
i would say the 84,500,000,000 or so dollars that US tax payers unwillingly gave to citizen's bank's parent company (the royal bank of scotland) might entitle us to, at the very least, some free parking.
I know last year there were signs for that parking lot (hand written) posting that it was not parking for the farmers market, haven't walked/ridden through there this year as I come from a different direction now. I thought that was considered a public parking overflow lot in off hour though?
There's a dance in Union Square on Bow Street with folks who park in that lot on Thursday nights; it would be good to know if this is true for them as well.
the tow guy had mentioned the after hours issue when i was picking up my car from their lot. citizens and/or pat's towing needs to be contacted for confirmation.
