Damaged plastic totes outside Rite-Aid

I have twice now encountered a stack of slightly damaged (broken hinges, holes/cracks in the bottom, but still stackable and closable) totes outside of Rite-Aid, on the sidewalk on Highland. Both times were on nights that aren't trash/recycling pickup nights. Does anyone know the provenance or fate of these totes?

Since encountering this phenomenon, I've not been in Davis during business hours.

Rite Aid often puts out crates filled with empty pill bottles from the pharmacy for recycling.

Those are almost certainly their recycling bins.

They go out on non-recycling nights, and I haven't encountered them non-empty, despite seeing them only in the middle of the night.
