[identity profile] mnsmom.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] davis_square
A couple of weeks ago my car was broken into here in Davis Square and my camera and camcorder were stolen.  I don't usually leave them in the car.  I forgot that they were there and when I remembered the next day, they were gone.  Unfortunately there was a bunch of videos from my daughters first year of life that I hadn't downloaded yet.  I'm more upset about that than the cameras. I keep hoping that the memory cards might still be out there, and whoever took them, or has them now might be willing to sell them back to me.   I know it's a long shot but has anyone had any luck recovering stolen goods like this? I filed a police report and have been checking craigslist. Any tips on next steps to take?   Thanks in advance.

I would point you at http://www.ifoundyourcamera.net/ , except that it hasn't been updated since September 25 and I don't know if it has been abandoned.

The associated Facebook group appears to be more active.

There is a web service that will let you upload a photo taken with your camera, then it gets the camera serial # from the EXIF data, and searches the web for other newer photos taken with that camera. I can't remember the name, but maybe someone can reply with it.
