Somehow I missed the news that Spike's Junkyard Dogs closed their Davis Square location a week ago. [Edit: Or not; my eyes need to be checked. It's this Friday that they're closing.]

I remember reading that Painted Burro was going to be expanding into that space, but didn't realize they were closing so soon...

You're right, as the commenter below confirms: it's the 30th, and I obviously need to go back to the eye doctor soon. :)

I have no idea what was up tonight; I swear there wasn't anyone behind the counter when I glanced in. Maybe they were just all on break...

Wait, what? They were open just a few days ago. I walked by on Saturday and they were open for business. They were closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Ah, that must be it. I *swear* the sign said the 20th, but it probably was the 30th. (It's dark, and my eyes are bad...)

Here are few updates from Dave (local Spike's franchisee):

We were closed last Thursday on Thanksgiving so our employees could enjoy the day with their families. We re-opened on Friday following turkey day.

WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS at the Davis Square location through FRIDAY (until 10 pm tonite, 11am-10pm tomorrow, and 11am -midnight on Thursday and Friday) so "teko" you can grab a reuben (one of my top 5 favorites)!

Yes, we are closing this Friday at midnight. We had a good run and truly appreciate everyone's patronage.

For everyone stopping by until we close on Friday, we are giving out a coupon for a FREE Hot Dog or Veggie Dog at one of the two other area locations:

You wouldn't perchance be willing to share what brand your veggie dogs are, would you? I'm not even a vegetarian, but I get them all the time because, while the Spike's hotdog is a thing of beauty, the veggie dog is actually good as or better than most other hotdogs.
