hazardous waste dispsal

The city doesn't do collections December through March.  Does anyone know where I can safely dispose of some motor oil, wood stain, and a few other things?  Already tried giving them away several times, but no takers.

It seems common to only collect hazardous waste a couple times a year. You may try calling the DPW for their suggestion or ask when the next collection date is and just store the stuff until then.

As the original post states, the next collection date isn't until April.

Somerville is much better than average in this respect, having a collection day on the 2nd Saturday of every month from April (as pointed out by the OP & Ron) through November, the same months that it does yard waste pickup. It's been the same schedule the last several years, and though I haven't seen the environmental services bulletin for 2013 yet, I assume it will be the same.

All of which doesn't help when you find yourself in December with stuff you'd rather not have to hold onto for 4 months!

ETA: Oh, motor oil! Missed that. There's a Mass. law that stores that sell motor oil also accept used motor oil. At least I think there still is - I was here when it was passed (1980s, memorable because of the bitching & moaning of stores - esp. Caldor & Bradlees!! - about how difficult it would be to implement) and though I then left the city & state for 16 years I think it's still around. Hence AutoZone taking it as Bikergeek states below. Just found the state's page. Can't help much with stain, unless there's so little you can dry it out, then it can go in the trash.

Motor oil can be taken to any AutoZone location, they have a tank in the back room for disposal.

I have a garage and will be holding some stuff until April (or May, or June, whenever I'm actually around on a 2nd Saturday) and can add yours to the pile - if there's stuff you absolutely can't find a way to get rid of.
