Are there any craft stores accessible by public transit in Somerville? I'm not referring to knitting/sewing supplies, but more like pipe cleaners, stuffing, googly eyes, wire, wood, etc.? Random stuff like that.

Relatedly, does the Target in Somerville have such crafty stuff?

It's not in Somerville, but Play Time is in Arlington Center at the end of the 87 bus line.

I second (or third) Play Time. I plan arts and crafts activities at my job and I do all my shopping there. Their prices are good too.

Right across from Pearl Art in Central is a not very well-advertised place called the Artist Supply. They do a lot of fine arts stuff, but also have probably more random crafty stuff than Pearl. Worth checking out.

I'm rather sorry that the one local AC Moore (in Everett, I think) burned down before I moved to Somerville--I mean, it's a pretty artsy area, you think they'd have another one nearby.

Possibly..?
I really don't know...it looked just closed to me, and when I mentioned it to a friend, they mentioned something about a fire. Could have been confused.

Either way, Michael's, while nifty, doesn't carry the kind of stuff I go to AC Moore for, sadly. I end up making the trip to Natick occasionally. Though that last trip--mostly to get small cows for the trebuchet--could have been fulfilled at Michael's, I guess.

There is one in Arlington right behind where Wild Women Outfitters was (Mass ave). It's on broadway I think. I can't remember the name but it may be something like Craft Time or somthing like that.

Cool! I saw that there's also a shoe store (DSW maybe?) and Bed Bath and Beyond coming too. Does this mean Ikea is out?

IKEA's website says they have a location in Stoughton coming soon, so I think they're out of the running for Assembly Sq.

they're supposed to be opening the somerville store in '06, iirc. while it's in the assembly square redevelopment, it's not in the mall buildings. at the least it's still listed in press releases as a future store for ikea. they own the property on which they're going to build.

one third of the whole assembly square property was just sold this past spring. (http://lists.somerville.ma.us/pipermail/assemblysq/2005-March/000018.html) the article mentions the adjacent ikea property.
