This weekend, I would like to purchase me some glasses. As a contact lens wearer for most of my adult life, I haven't a clue where would be a good place. I'm more interested in getting something nice rather than cheap, but cheap is always a welcome. I'd prefer something near the Red Line. I already have a prescription.

Many thanks

For Eyes Optical http://www.foreyes.com/. There are about 4 or 5 locations and they have some great styles. There is the option to get two complete pairs of glasses for $99 but you have to choose from certain frames. They have a big selection of more expensive frames that are a little classier.

I second that. I've gotten my last 2 pairs there (from the cheap selection) and I get a lot of compliments on them!

Eye Q in Harvard Square is awesome and funky. They have their own line of frames and know what they're doing. They don't take insurance though so if that's an issue might want to try For Eyes, which has some reasonably funky stuff, cheaper, and does take insurance.

I had a bad experience at EyeQ a few years ago, involving overly pushy salespeople and a dispute as to whether one could get a refund on two pairs of glasses that we'd paid for but not actually ordered. (I also found their selection to be small, overpriced and excessively trendy.)

I really liked Parrelli Optical in Porter Square, in the building with Uno's and Lackluster Video in it.

I had a similar experience--I went in for contact lenses and explained up front that I didn't want glasses and they still kept pushing glasses on me. Then they subscribed me contact lenses that made my eyes dry out frequently, but that's something else entirely.
They did have funky frames, however, if I could afford them.

The glasses place in the Harvard Vanguard Bldg on Holland has a tiny tiny selection... Probably not worth your time (although I went and the one pair I liked happened to be on sale, and then I ended up liking them even more!)
