Tiny House seeking a place to root down

My brother-in-law has been working hard on an awesome tiny house project. Built entirely by himself, and close to completion, he is now seeking help/information/leads on a place to set it down permanently, either by renting or purchasing space.  Please visit the following link for more details:

The house is currently in Worcester, where he found a warehouse with space he could use while building. He would probably welcome visitors - I would recommend emailing Dave directly at wabisabihouse@icloud.com I will also see if he can send me more of the most recent set of photos to post.

Out of curiousity, does your brother in law also need to tap into any utilities like electricity and water?

I don't think so... he has a solar panel for power, I forget what he does for gas/heat, and I believe he has a holding tank for water that can get cycled into the sink. The toilet is a composting one. That about does it for my knowledge of the specs. Again, for more detailed information you're best served by contacting Dave directly to talk about it. I'm sure he'd be happy to share what he's learned and talk about how he's created it along the way.

Awesome, too bad our society is so anti density at the expense of the environment. Tiny house fascinates people, but many apartments in one place they whine about on street parking being more in demand.

I know many beach towns would allow them as summer homes (forbidding permanent residence). otherwise you're looking at getting variances for most towns in eastern MA or buying land in VT :)

How many Sq Ft is the roof? if under 140 it'd be easy to install in a backyard in my town as a shed, so he could maybe post a "wanted: small corner of your property to rent" ad on Craigslist. might require some minor ignoring of the law, but with little repercussions other than having to move it if caught

Thanks for that information. I've passed along your message to Dave directly. I don't know the square footage of the roof. Not sure if he's been able to check email and get back to you, but if he doesn't, I can try to learn the dimensions.

Hi,

I shared your note with my Dave. His response to me was:

"I don't know what he means by the roof size. It's the square footage that matters. In most places, a permanent structure that's under 120sq ft doesn't need a permit. That rule doesn't apply if it's on wheels...
Anyway, my house's footprint is about 160sq ft. The livable space is about 130 or something."

Can you say a bit more about the regulation about sheds, and what town your are in? Thanks!

It's not my project, but as I understand it, he does have a reservoir of water, with the idea that he can collect it passively, and use it in the house for his water needs.
