Accountant?

I'm looking for an accountant. I've got one I've been using but a couple of things make me think that he's not the best fit for me. Ideally I'd want someone who has a decent knowledge of the taxes around selling a home & buying a new one, and someone who would be willing to meet with me and talk to me about this issue now-ish would be best of all.

I don't know who you were using, but I (and, I believe, cthulhia) recommend Bob Thompson. He doesn't have a web site that I know of. He came to our house to do our taxes, too, which made life so much easier.

I don't have someone to recommend, but I did just sell a home and buy a new one, and the tax stuff was not nearly as complicated as I had expected (although maybe I shouldn't say that until after I file next year, but...).

Well, it's a two-family, so it had rental income & depreciation over the time I've owned it. Also, I bought it with a partner, then bought him out by both assuming the existing mortgage AND giving him a cash payout (the property had appreciated considerably in the 6 years that we co-owned), so computing the cost basis will be challenging. The taxes will apply mostly to the rental portion of the house. And the way depreciation is taxed confuses the heck out of me.

Did you find somebody you liked? I'm feeling swamped with somewhat similar situation this year. (marriage and buying a 2 family with rental income and renovations and eek!)
