Its the older, non-portable model. it charges my iPod Classic - and says its playing - but no sound.
I looked it up on line and its either a cable connection problem or it needs a new circuit board - which
according to a youTube video is a 3 minute job with a 3rd party board. I'm just not mechanically handy
that way & don't have the right tools to get the plastic cover off. Bose says they'll give me a new one
for $150 - but I think its an easy fix if I can find someone who knows how.

Someone at Artisan's Asylum may be willing/able to help you out in exchange for a sixpack or something.

My non-Bose dock just started having the same issue. My easy workaround was using an av cable instead of the dock. Not very elegant, but I figure this thing is 6 years old and beat up to hell, so I'm glad to just extend its life for another year or two.

This is what I got: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MX4D0U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2NK89850H0GO2

(I am also assuming you have an audio port in the back of the dock)

I'd check in with one or more of the idevice repair places. They mostly do cracked-screen or broken-button stuff on phones, but it's a logical thing for them to know how to do. I got my phone fixed at Boston iPhone Repair and they did a reasonably-priced and quick job. Their website is http://www.bostoniphonerepair.com/ and the store is located in Harvard Square, not in Boston proper. I imagine if they had to order a part it might take a little longer, but...

I haven't seen the device myself, but I'd guess that any repair cost over $30 is unreasonable (if you already have the parts on hand, and it just needs a new board).

Audio Lab in Harvard Square is my go-to for this sort of thing.
