As my cat's arthritis got worse, getting onto the bed, her nesting spot, became more fraught. So I built her a ramp. It's made from peg board, airplane wire, carpet and cable ties. It's lightweight and fairly sturdy. There is a row of feathers along the top because when I built it, I forgot that she might step out over the open space, expecting the old stairs to be there (and being largely blind), so it was a last minute addition and can certainly be removed (unless you found it as peculiarly charming as I did).

Pictures here next to the bed (from when it was first built a few months ago):

And here for a better view of it:

It's free to a good home and was built with loads of love. We had 22.25 years together, she and I, and I am sure there is someone else out there crazy enough to want something like this for their pet, too. I can probably fit it into my car (or on it) for a short hop to anywhere in Arlington or Somerville or nearby.

That looks like just the thing for our 21 year old kitty. We're in the process of moving to Davis in a couple of weeks. Don't hold it if anyone else wants it, but if no one has taken it in 2 weeks we will.

If you need me to show up in my minivan to move it, let me know.

My condolences on the loss of your kitty. 22+ years is a long time.

Once again, I am sorry for your loss, but also glad your awesome ramp will be going to another great home.

What a kind and thoughtful thing to build -- you win the prize for awesome kitty-mom.

Our elderly arthritic cat is still with us, but incapable of climbing the stairs we bought several years back (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=14470). If someone wants them now that the ramp is claimed, I'd be happy to see them used instead of sitting in our basement.

Thank you! Sadly, I think even a ramp is beyond him at this point.
