What she said. I went to their office, and they'er great, but they can do things remotely, too. I still use them as my agent even though I'm in western MA, and alphacygni signed up with them as well, while living out here, and it wasn't even difficult.
oh, and I'd like to take this chance to warn you away from Garrett. I didn't get a good rate there and they're slow in processing paperwork. Plus Commerce Insurance is terrible.
To some degree, yes. But there are companies and other "groups" that you can belong to like AAA or such that will lower your rate by some small percent (3-10% usually).
And, for the "standardized" rate, different companies offer different qualities of customer service, speed of processing claims, and general helpfulness in the insurance process. In my opinion, Commerce was a bad value for my money.
this link seems to have a pretty good start on how the MA insurance madness works, and links to a few other sites that have info as well.
When I bought my first car, I had absolutely no idea what kind of insurance to buy. I didn't know anything about compulsory vs. optional, collision and comprehensive. I was a babe in the woods.
I can't count the number of agencies I called asking for quotes, but the only place that didn't make me feel like an idiot for asking questions was Wiseman Insurance on Highland Ave. in Davis. Everyone who works there is awesome.
I adore the ladies at Garrett Insurance on College Ave., just past Store 24. Ellen and Judy were very helpful to me when I bought my first car, helped me through the morass of choices. I just bought another car, and they were excellent in giving me quotes on different models and working with the dealer so I didn't have to anything.
I don't mean to be nosy, but approximately what are you all paying for insurance here? I know that money matters can be personal and all, but I'm considering bringing my car up here and am curious as to just how expensive it is! I'm paying approximately $900 in Pennsylvania, so it'll clearly cost me more than that here. I have a 1993 Dodge Spirit, so it's not like I have anything remotely sporty or dangerous! I'm also female with no prior tickets or accidents.
