Somerville Wards 1, 3, and 5 will hold preliminary elections next Tuesday, September 24. In Wards 1 and 3, the election will reduce the number of ward-alderman candidates to two. In Ward 5, the election is for School Committee.
I made a long post about the election last month, with lists of and links to all of the candidates. It didn't get much discussion at the time, maybe because it was August. Now might be a good time to start paying attention.
The Weekly Dig has posted this guide to the Ward 1, 3, and 5 races.
ETA: For another view of the preliminary election, read Ken Brociner's recent Somerville Journal column.
ETA2: Somerville Patch's guide to the preliminary election, with links to profiles and questionnaire answers from every candidate.
ETA3: Somerville Journal endorses McLaughlin, Bremer, and Pitone
Comment away!

Date: 2013-09-19 02:51 am (UTC)If you live in Ward 1, you've probably already heard my spiel about Matt McLaughlin being the obvious candidate -- which is to say, a human being who is unflappable honest, upright, and generally good for the world. If you live in Ward 3 (my home turf!), you should consider voting for Suzanne Bremer for the same reasons! I don't know her personally, but the comparison to Matt alone surely speaks in her favor. If we really want to build sustainable community in Somerville, we need folks like this on the Board of Aldermen!
SPEAKING OF WHICH. Preliminary elections for Alderman (and Alderwomen!) are *this coming Tuesday* September 24. If you're in Somerville, get yourself out to the polls, because we need your votes! Please don't skip it and wait for the real thing to come around -- it's a runoff election in Wards 1 and 3, and this is the real thing.
