I have a 2BR 2Bath 2 parking spots deleaded 1100 sq ft freestanding house for rent on a temporary basis available Jan 1st for 1-4, maybe 5 months max.

If you are looking for or know someone who is looking for temporary housing while they move away form or move to the area, or for some other reason wants something temporary, please PM me or respond via craigslist below.   It can be hard to find anything other than a 1 year lease.   I'm going to be building an addition on it, and I'm looking for temporary tenants to rent it until the weather warms up.

It is in East Somerville near Twin City Plaza/Union Square, not Davis Square, but thought it might be relevant to some people who read here.

This might interest someone on Somervillemoms@yahoogroups.com or marketplace@somervillefamilies.com, particularly with the place being a deleaded single family...

I know this is not related but i've never heard of "Somerville Families" so I checked out their website. Is Somerville Families some sort of ultra-right-wing-conservative organization along the lines of Family Research Council or American Family Association? The reason that I'm asking is that on their website they state that the membership of "Somerville Families" is limited to parents/guardians/grandparents - clearly indicating that this organization does not consider non-children bearing households families.

I don't really care but I'm surprised that such an exclusionary group has been able to be active in Somerville without more noise.

Not at all related to any of the right wing "a family is a man a woman and a child" political groups! I will pass on the feedback about what the text says, as I do know the folks who started it, but here is a bit of background
from my perspective:

SomervilleFamilies is definitely meant to be a kid-related community resource on the internet for people in Somerville.
The two things it *is* pretty specifically meant to be exclusive about are : it's about kids and families-with-kids (not, like ds_lj, about the community in general) and about life with kids *in Somerville*. It's used as a community forum for discussion, questions, announcements, and whatnot about schools, classes, parenting advice, fun activities for kids, playgrounds, selling and buying and exchanging kid toys, furniture, where to buy kids' shoes, etc. Your family that doesn't have kids probably isn't interested in that, but I don't think anyone's interested in defining what makes a "family" vs a "household" (and certainly not vs "an abomination unto the Lord" ;-) If the membership is limited to Somerville parents/families/guardians, they mean that vs., say, nannies looking for work and wanting to post position wanted ads, and the emphasis is much more on the "Somerville" vs. "Not Somerville" than on the "families" vs. "not families".

The name "families" is meant to do better than the name "Moms" -- there is a longrunning Yahoo list, SomervilleMoms, whose name has irked people on occasion for the better part of the decade that the list has been around. SomervilleMoms at this point contains somewhere between 1000 and 2000 members, and many of them no longer live in Somerville or ever did, and it has some elements more like a generic parenting resource than a community-building one.

I did specifically point at those lists because of the kids/deleaded single family connection, because deleaded is an important (and tricky, thanks to MA law) consideration for tenants with kids. I'm sure there are lots of other non-kid focused ones out there.
