The Shaw's supermarket on Locust Street in Medford, across from Meadow Glen Mall, is closing by February 20.
ETA 2/12: today the store has a LAST 5 DAYS sign, so the real clsoing day may be February 16.

When I stopped by this store early on a Friday evening a week and a half ago, the place was deserted and the liquidation-sale prices weren't especially great. But the sale may be better now. Has anyone shopped there lately?

First the McDonalds, now the Shaw's. What's up with Meadow Glen?

Shaw's is my last resort of grocery shopping. Too expensive. I go to the Aldi and Stop and Shop just down the street.

I agree with justphoenix. I didn't go to that Shaw's because their prices were higher than other places, and their quality was lower. I've bought milk from that Shaw's on a few occasions and it seemed to go sour quicker than what seemed normal. I suspect their fridge temps were set a twitch warmer to save energy, yet stayed within legal limits. I also didn't like their meats. It's sad, however, because now unless I drive really far to a Marketbasket (even Somerville's) there's no other supermarket choice than the multiple Stop and Shops or super expensive Whole Foods.

Isn't there some major construction going on right by there? I never drive that way if I can help it.

Maybe we should redevelop it as a livable community?

It's right by the Mystic River Reservation, not too far from the Orange line. It could be really nice, rather than the horrible box store dystopia it is now. (We would have to do something about rts. 16/28 though)

One nice day last spring we wound up walking in a roundabout way from doing some retail errands there, down along the Mystic reservation on the new paths I hadn't really checked out, then crossing Mystic Ave at Temple St and walking up to Broadway to rejoin easy bus transportation.

The crosswalks right around the mall complex still sucked, but it made me feel like someplace that could have a future as a home for box stores and a supermarket and a pleasant enough place for pedestrians too.
