Does anyone here go back that far? Some great stuff here. Davis Square proper begins at around the 9:40 mark.

(For whatever reason, the video didn't play in Firefox for me but did in Chrome.)

Thanks for sharing; that's very cool. (Why don't we still have a basketball hoop in Powderhouse Park...? :>)

I wish so badly that Somerville today was what it was back then. Mostly Bostonian born families with a mix of other countries. It's just a city that has been ruined.

Thank you for posting this. It's nice to remember when Somerville was a great place to be!

Replying to myself, haha! I very much miss FFC. I loved that they had those large tables they had everything on. I miss the McDonalds that had the playroom the kids loved and Steve's was the best!

There's still a lot of areas of Somerville with that demographic. Also, a lot of folks - myself included - who don't think the city sucks. Sorry that you do!

Davis Square has a lot of Tufts students, but also a great number of Bostonian born families with a mix of other countries. It hasn't been "ruined" (by, what, the T?).

I'm sure you're talking about Barneys (and would probably consider my family to be that), but "Bostonian born families"? When I was growing up in Somerville in the 80s, it felt like most kids my age had immigrant parents and/or grandparents.

(I also miss that McDonald's! And birthday parties in the basement room with orange drink.)

More proof that the two things residents of XYZ location can't stand are:
Change
The way things are.

I've been trying since last night to figure out the right way to let you know how insulting that comment is, and it took a while, but I realized that you must be entirely aware of that.

Thanks so much,
JB - 12 year resident of Davis Sq.
