If you are one of those second-and-fourth Thursday people (whose street doesn’t get swept on Thanksgiving), good news! The city is going to sweep your street on the Monday after Thanksgiving.  Yay! But don’t forget to move your car!

How did you find out about this? Does the city plan to post signs?

That's nice, but I'll bet most people affected by this don't read either the city website or DSLJ. A lot of folks will be very unhappy to get ticketed for this, especially if they're still out of town that day.

As mentioned below, the city usually doesn't ticket when they sweep outside the regular schedule. It's not worth the hassle and probably would raise legal concerns if they didn't provide proper notice.

That link doesn't say if they're posting signs (or not).

Cambridge posts paper signs in this situation.

This is a ridiculous move by the city.

Is it even legal to ticket cars for this when it isn't posted? This is going to be a fiasco. Very little of the street is going to be swept and a lot of cars are going to be ticketed.

And, only about half of those people will bother to contest the ticket. That's what the city is counting on - a few extra dollars.

Scummy.

The city should not ticket this year to give residents a chance to adapt.

Hey all,
Here's some clarification on the extra street sweeping day:
This came about a request from Ward 6 residents who live on streets that normally get swept the fourth Thursday of the month. Since they miss the final November sweep each year because of Thanksgiving and there is sometimes snow in December, they would have debris that stayed on their streets all winter.

First, we put out word on the City website and sent it to local media outlets and then also posted it on social media. Parking Control Officers have and will continue to flyer cars parked on the affected streets and later this week we'll be sending out an alert call and putting up signs or saw horses on the affected streets. Whenever something like this comes up, you can always contact the City directly by calling 311, and we'll get you the most up-to-date and correct information.

Second, we will not be ticketing that day. Normally, that's not something we'd want to put out publicly. Unfortunately, without the threat of a ticket hanging over them, some people will not move their cars and parts of the street won't be swept. Hopefully, even with this information out there now, everyone will agree to cooperate to benefit their neighborhood.
