I just saw a sign on Teriyaki House (on Broadway near Powderhouse; used to be Doo Wee & Rice, and East Asia before that) saying "closed during transition" and "Mint Indian Eatery". I will miss their marinated rice plates, bao baos, and crispy chicken hearts! Anyone know anything about the new place?

Well, that's a shame. I loved DooWee and miss his baos and crispy chicken hearts; I never had the chance to try Teriyaki House, but friends told me it was 'just okay' but kept trying to improve.

Teriyaki house had the baos and chicken hearts on the menu too, but maybe not quite as good as DooWee's.

Yup, when DooWee closed, I said something on Chowhound about missing his food already, and DooWee himself contacted me to tell me that he was 'supervising the menu' at Teriyaki House and giving them his recipes, as well as inviting me to a special night when Wonder Bar opened. My invitation never arrived and I don't think he supervised very closely, from the sound of things.

I have no idea where to find chicken hearts in this town now.

DooWee is still doing his thing most nights at Wonder Bar in Allston. It's a trek from Somerville but he has the bao and fried chicken hearts on the menu.

the churrascaria rodizio restaurants have them, but it's pricey

Also Macchu Picchu and its sister restaurant have had them but it looks like they only do beef heart now :(

There are chicken hearts at Oasis (Harvard St and Main St, medford, 10min walk from the powderhouse rotary) - on the grill, though not prepared exactly the same way as DooWee/Teriyaki house did. It's not at all pricey if you dont' do all you can eat - just get a "by the pound' plate and put whatever you want on it, weigh it, and they write the price of your plate on the slip.

That's disappointing - DooWee was great, and Teriyaki House was not quite as great but had tasty marinated rice plates.
(and here i was thinking "oh, maybe I'll go grab lunch from Teriyaki House some time this week" this morning)

Oh, that is a shame, it was a nice family run place, the baos were delicious, I will miss them. I wish they got more foot traffic at that location.

I also hear something about a bao place opening in Harvard Sq. I pooh-poohed it until I saw the sign up on Teriyaki house.

i am dubious about another new indian place doing well, with Yak and Yeti/House of Kebab struggling over in ball sq and plenty of options in Davis and Teele too. But we'll check it out,

It means just that--not your typical restaurant main courses, but something more akin to the appetizers lists. The menu will probably match up with Dosa Factory's to some degree.

I hope they do a great job. It's hard to find decent bhel at any of the local restaurants, or pani puri/dahi puri.

They'll likely have pakoras and samosas, but you can get those anywhere.

I just saw this today! Teriyaki House started off... Just ok, but they got better. They were no DooWee & Rice, but their bao were great.

I hope the new place is good and that it sticks around for awhile. They're advertising that they'll be bringing Indian street foods indoors. I wonder if they'll be similar to Dosa Factory in Central.
