Our 6 year old water heater IS apparently really a 6 yr model as we need to replace.  The first quote was $2100 which is way more than I pexpected.  Has anyone replaced yours lately and do you have a recommendation or can you confirm a ball park price range? It is a 50 gallon short with power vent if that makes sense to you.
Thanks!

I have a water heater

But from your description I assume you need a "side-venting" heater where mine is a chimney venting unit but we removed our chimney and had to get side-venting units ourselves. As for the quote I assume that is for a new unit to brought to the house, the plumber will drain and remove the unit and install the new unit and new hardware and piping that is required. I have heard quotes anywhere from 900-2500, I do feel 2100 is high. I'm not sure your know-how but you could drain the unit yourself and get rid of it your self ( putting the heater on the sidewalk will most likely get it picked up by a scrapper). Last quote I got a few years back was $1500, hope that helps.

Edit. a higher quote could reflect also a tougher location, where your water heater itself is not located in the basement but maybe in a closet in a more common area
