We have started the process of looking for housing for an elderly relative with disabilities. Having already spoken with Somerville Cambridge Elder Services, we have the overview of what is available.
I was wondering if anyone here has any advice based on their experiences. Any place to avoid? Any recommendations? Any handy hints or suggestions? Nearby facilities outside of Somerville?
Thanks,
Cranky

Date: 2016-07-13 04:45 am (UTC)She managed to get herself shipped to another facility – it might have been Hebrew Senior Life, I honestly don't remember it's name, but it was some flavor of Jewish – which kind of horrified my mother, because it looked like a hospital wing, smelled of disinfectant, and was careworn, but my Nana preferred it, and, by gum, she could have a single there.
I would feel comfortable recommending either facility as having caring and attentive staff; they were two very different places, offering two different levels of care. In any event, this is all over a decade and a half old.
Up on the north shore, I have nothing but the most reverently glowing things to say about Brentwood, but that may be too far afield, and they specialize in care for people with brain injuries and memory impairments.
