Hi all, the Leonid meteor shower is ongoing, with peak viewing expected to be Thursday night into Friday morning. For any people into this kind of thing, where do you suggest going to view? Obviously we need to get away from the city, but does anyone have a favorite spot? Thanks!

It's the Perseids, not Leonids. Thanks for tipping us off to the upcoming meteors!

This one is historic, too, I'm told. There's debris from 1079 (yes, the year) in this path. http://www.popularmechanics.com/space/a22200/meteor-shower-of-the-decade/

If you're willing to drop $60 on it and stay up late and can get to Gloucester and want to watch them from a boat with a captive astronomer, see schooner.org. Get there by 11:30pm Wednesday night, sail out into the Atlantic far enough to see Perseids and the Milky Way, back around 2:30am.

Oh, wow. I can't do this on such short notice, but will file away for next year. Thanks for mentioning.

If my work duties allow, my plan is to drive to Rockport. There are what I understand to be public rock beaches at Andrews Point with posted public rights-of-way down to them off Pointe de Chene Ave, between the large houses that otherwise occupy that area.

I watched one year from Singing Beach (Manchester-by-the-Sea). It was beautiful, super-dark, with great visibility. The singing sand didn't hurt either. Bring a blanket and something you can ball up for a pillow. Long sleeves, pants, and socks are also a good idea if you're staying late.

The road getting in and out is a bit dark in places, for those who care.
