Anybody have boxes they want rid of?

A close college friend for whom money is tight has a somewhat precipitous move, and is willing to drive wherever in the Boston area to pick up boxes. ron_newman thought it would be okay to post since I know a bunch of folks in Davis-ish and she would be willing to drive to Davis to fetch.

To quote:

"I am moving from Brookline to Belmont, and am in need of boxes. If you have suitable boxes, I can pick them up from you almost anywhere in greater Boston. I have a car.

Any size moving-compatible boxes are welcome. I have some liquor store boxes already, and intend to continue acquiring those, but if you have that size and/or larger, and/or clean packing materials, I would be grateful.

I have begun the packing process, and am unsure of exactly how long this will take, but probably will complete the move over the course of the next week or two."

Fwiw, the MIT copy shop will sell their empty copy paper boxes (nice and sturdy, they stack well!) for 50c/box and they donate the money to charity.

I have one large box filled with packing materials - I was going to offer it up on Freecycle. Not sure if she wants to make the trip for one box, but she's welcome to. She could also ask on Freecycle.

The packing materials are possibly of sufficient interest, and she ranges all around boston area for work. You're in Davis proper?

I sent you a direct message with her edress -- she's driving into Davis for other reasons very soon and has reason to be in somerville later today, so if there's a way to make that work it's not a separate trip.

When I worked at a grocery store, a lot of people would ask for produce boxes, specifically banana boxes, for this exact purpose. Maybe try calling up your local one to see if they'd arrange for that?

She's been getting boxes from stores, too. It's been a long time in one place, and the next place is temporary, so as it won't all be unpacked, more boxes!

The last time I moved, I used those big reusable Whole Foods or Trader Joe's bags for packing a lot of my stuff. It was really convenient having handles to help me lift.

That's a really good idea. This move is to a temporary location, so the plan is to leave a lot of stuff packed.

Another great strategy is to move hanging stuff still on hangers.

I have had really good luck with Barnes and Noble boxes. Ironically, they're too big to be good for packing books, but they're all exactly the same size and stack very nicely. I was able to call up Barnes and Noble and ask if they had any, and they gave me a big pile for free.

Thanks! I'm sorry I missed this email; that's a really great idea. I think she's mostly set but that's a great idea in general.

(i'm actually reminded of years and years back when a friend worked for barnes and noble and another friend didn't announce her sudden emergency move until the day/after B&N broke down and got rid of a bunch of boxes.)
