Supposing a person were terrified of dentists, and very timidly just
wanted to have clean teeth...

Can anyone recommend a very gentle reassuring dentist in the
area?

There must be somebody who specializes in dentist phobia.

There's some dentist with radio ads who says he will drug you to make it easier for you. I don't remember any info beyond that.

The folks at West Somerville Dental have never done me wrong. I can't say that they specialize in phobia. The only person I know of that sort has an office in Scituate... and I don't know that would help much.

Gentle Dental in Cambridge is good. Especially, and I will spell this wrong, Dr. Paszeski - something like that - at Porter Gentle Dental. I highly recommend him.

Just to put in an opposing view point, I have only had BAD experiences at Gentle Dental (in Porter). We now go to Peter L. Goldstone, D.D.S.
[20 Hurley St., Cambridge, MA 02141 (617) 491-1403], and LOVE him. He's not shaming AT ALL.

Dr. Cook at Davis Square Dental will make you so at ease you may forget what you're doing there. He's very good.

Fifthed. He's great. And the chiropractor next door is handy too after an hour in the dental chamber...er, chair.

I schlepp all the way from Davis Square to Brookline because I like my dentist so much.

He has a very reassuring manner while being up-to-date on all the latest dental techniques and tools. I even blogged once on how much I liked his practice (September 9, entry):

Warning: entry has close-up pictures of my tooth before and after a filling.

The closest T stop is Coolidge Corner on the Green C line. Just walk south on Harvard Street and the dental office is on your left.

I go to MGH Dental Group, which is (unsurprisingly) next to Mass General. My hygenist, Karen, used to work for a dentist who specialized in people who were afraid of the dentist, so she's great. She lets me wear my iPod during cleanings so I can't hear anything, and she will put numbing gel on my gums so I don't feel anything. I recommend both of those solutions highly.

Dr. Eric Klein was pretty good for that. He's just outside Davis. I ended up not really liking him cause he was always pushing for the latest and greatest thing that I really didn't need to get done, but he and his staff were definitely the most gentle I'd ever been too.
