Hi neighbours,

Does anybody go to Healthworks Fitness Center for Women which is on Porter sq.?
I want to have workout program designed for me, and I'm thinking of a consultation or personal training... maybe to take few sessions with an instructior. Did you do it? Can you recommend me someone? Whom did you like or dislike and why?

Thanks!

I have several friends who go there and they love love love it. They all say it's not cheap, but it's worth it. If you go, that is. And they go!

I belong to the Porter Square Healthworks and my membership came with two complimentary personal training sessions. Although the trainer was very nice, I was not impressed with the session. The trainer rushed to show me generic exercises and stretches (which was helpful), but did not personalize a workout routine based on my needs (which was not helpful).

(I have yet to take advantage of the second session.)

(There may be a difference between complimentary and paid sessions.)

I'm sorry, it was a while ago and I don't remember.

I really liked the gym when I was a member, and found my consultation to be helpful. I also got a lot of useful advice whenever I would go ask the people behind the desk various questions ("what kinds of exercises are good for Goal X?" and so on). I never could afford the personal training sessions, though, so I don't have any advice there. I also can't remember who did my consultation, as it was quite a while back.

if you're not a member yet, don't join, unless you got a fantastic deal. the annual price hikes are enough to make the nearby Bally's look... not prohibitively evil.

If you are already a member, at least as of the last time I had personal training, which was a few years ago, you were allowed one free trial session with every trainer there (if they were taking new clients). It's worth trying a few of them to get an idea of what you'd prefer.

I am a member, and they recently raised my rate. I'm considering quitting once I evaluate the gym situation at my new workplace. Does yours not get raised or something? I'm confused by the statement.

For the record, I had very positive experiences with the personal training staff across the street at Bally's.

I usually sit in front of the windows and eat ice cream from 4-6 on mondays and fridays. See ya there!

I know a fantastic trainer who will be starting there soon.

I'm terrible at coming up with things to do at the gym, and get bored easily, so I joined the Curves in Central (it's also on my way home from work). I like it and it's only $39/month to join, but obviously it doesn't have all the fancy stuff that other gyms do...
