Fresh Pond Cinema: new owners, possibly improved

I just ran across this article in the Cambridge Chronicle about the sale of the Fresh Pond Cinema. Apparently, the new owners are a Massachusetts-based company and plan to reopen it tomorrow.

The lineup will remain first-run movies, but the new operator vows patrons a better experience than under Loews. "It's just in rough shape," said Bill Hanney, owner of Entertainment Cinemas. "It just needs an updating." Hanney plans to refurbish the lobbies, install all-digital sound and restore the defunct two-story indoor waterfall.

Entertainment Cinemas are the same folks who reopened it back in 1990 after it had sat closed for most of the previous decade. Unfortunately, they sold it to Loews just a few months afterwards. I hope they'll hang on to it longer this time.

Well that's encouraging news. Hopefully they can both make it look nice and turn a profit running it.
