planned parenthood coming to davis?

When I walked past the Buck-a-Book space/Starbucks today, I noticed there was a sign for a Planned Parenthood Express Center (listed on the sign that lists all the businesses in that little plaza). So I wonder if the previous B-a-B space is becoming a new Planned Parenthood center? I'm fairly excited about this, especially as a previous employee of PPLM - they've been talking forever about opening smaller branches for just birth control and non-exam visits (right now they only have branches in Boston on Comm Ave, Springfield, and Worcester), and right in our neighborhood is great. Does anyone know anything more about this?

At the last Davis Square Task Force meeting (the one that got announced here on LJ), ward 6 alderman Rebekah Gewirtz mentioned something about that, IIRC. She said it would be something that sounds like what you describe as an "Express Center". I'm not sure if it's definite or just probably.

I think it's going in the back part of Buck-a-Book, with its own entrance on the plaza. They've been building a partition wall separating this section from the storefront on Elm Street. But I can't tell for sure.

maybe express center means something like you can only get pills there, and other small reasons for being there.

yes..I know that's what that means, I said that in the post. What I was asking is if anyone knows when it'll open, if it's actually going in the Buck-a-Book space...etc.

Hi,

I spoke with a planned parenthood spokesperson a few weeks ago and they are opening soon in Davis Square...I thought she said sometime in February, but maybe it will be closer to in March? Soon, though. And yes, from how I understood it, Express Center means they will provide non-exam services, like prescribing and STD testing.

they open on the 23rd of this month. the day after the sex fair at tufts!

I talked today to construction workers in the back part of Buck-a-Book, the part with the door opening out into the plaza. They confirmed that this will be the Planned Parenthood clinic's location.
