My husband and I will soon be moving from the Davis Square area to Beverly and are looking for mover recommendations? Or comments on who to avoid! We're willing to pay for a quality move but obviously don't want to spend a fortune either. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I used Big Foot Moving, http://www.bigfootmoving.com/ who were WONDERFUL, I can't recommend them highly enough. ALthough they are based in waltham their trucks are parked somewhere in somerville near 93 - since the charge is from the starting point to the end of the move, this is relevant. The guys were really nice, they moved things very fast, explained all the charges clearly, and delivered boxes & materials ahead of time.

Also check with Nick's movers in Somerville. I heard great things about them, and called to use them when I moved (within somerville) on September 1st. Because it is a very busy day, they were booked. The only reason I mention Nick's is I believe their hourly rate was a bit lower, at least last sept when I was checking.

So sad you're moving. :-( But happy that you'll have a house you can love!

I used Dragonfly Movers (http://www.dragonflymovers.com/) last time I moved, and several friends have since, and we all loved the work they did. They were friendly, fast, and efficient, and despite the fact I'd confused them with my too-low estimate of the amount of stuff, they were champions at Tetris in the truck to get it all in there.
However, they are based in JP, and do charge for the time to drive there.

Nick's Moving has done me well. They might've gone up in price since they've won a Best of Boston award (or more).

Once used Dragonfly Movers. Paid a lot for them to travel up from J.P. and back. Was promised a truck and got a van instead so I ended up shelling out extra since it took tetris-ing and multiple trips (the truck promised would've taken one trip, not 3, and no time/$$$ spent arranging stuff -- I had one mover moving and another simply arranging opposed to 2 people actually moving like Nick's had and as I expected). Ended up costing a bunch more than Nick's did especially after being deceived on the vehicle I was getting.

Gentle Giant movers are amazing. Best I ever used.

Gentle Giant. I'd never use anyone else at this point. Their strapping young men _run_ back onto the truck to grab more boxes as they're unpacking.

Gentle Giant moved us out of a six floor walkup, and came in at half their estimate.

Their per-hour rate is high, but as mentioned, their movers are huge and fast.

We had a great experience with Nick's, moving from Somerville to Somerville. They were quite reasonable, they worked their @sses off, even though we have tons of books and were moving from a 3rd floor to 3rd floor apartment. I really recommend them.

Spry moving out of Woburn is the best, ever.
