Benjapon's is open, at 195 Elm Street, the former location of Fusion Express. It appears to be a fast-food Thai place. I don't know how long it has been open. Has anyone here tried it yet?

they seem to be an odd mix of take-out fast food and curry. they were giving out free samples of Thai Iced Tea when I wandered by which was relatively tasty ;)

My roommate and I went today, and I found them to be quick (under 5 minutes to get our food), tasty, and just the right amount of food. I'd definitely go back!

funny that all the reviews here seem to be positive. all the ones on the local chowhounds board are a little indifferent at best. pad thai and such was a bit greasy and just so-so but i wonder about the curries...

I've gotten food there twice. I'd describe price and quality as being competitive with other take-out oriented Thai places. Both the iced tea and iced coffee were nice. The drunken noodles were a little greasy, but nicely spicy. The green curry had very nice flavor and was pretty hot, but was more dominated by big chunks of eggplant than I would have liked. The fried rolls appeared to be sticks of pure wrapper, with no filling--not recommended. [livejournal.com profile] yagagriswold got a stir-fried dish that was tasty and not too spicy.

In sum, I'd give it a weak thumbs up. Not exciting, but good.

I'd agree. The fried rolls had a little filling, but not much--I was disappointed by them. But my thai basil curry with chicken was good, and spicy, and had a decent amount of chicken in it.

Also, they have a card that lets you get a free entree after buying 10 of them. I'd say it's a reasonable place to go to if you're in the area and don't expect any waitservice, but it's not a place to go out of your way to get to.

Shrug like you mean it...

I concur. Tried it last week and it was just okay. I was a little disappointed as I tend to invest a lot of hopes and dreams into each new Davis Square venture, so maybe I was expecting too much (I did like Fusion, the previous restaurant in the Benjapon space, and, I'd say Fusion was much better than Benjapon).
