I ate a hot dog from Spike's and it was pretty good.

They use real cheese! And the buns are huge, square, and oddly tasty.

Curly fries were only OK though.

The fries are mediocre, but the dogs are divine! My favourite thing about Spike's: it's a Rhode Island-based chain, so they have celery salt available to put on your dogs! YEAH!

Believe it or not, last summer (I think), The Sunset Grill and Tap had tremendously good stuffies.

Where you from?

I am from West-uh-lee.

Can you say "Rocky Point?"

Or was that before your time?

Before my time? Nah. I wore Hypercolor tee-shirts there in the summer and made patterns on them with my hands after getting drenched in the Flume. Yeah, I'm young, but old enough for that. :)

I used to live in Warwick very close to Rocky Point, and went there at least a couple times a summer, for the couple of years I was there. I was so sad when they closed that crappy old place down. Before and after the years in Warwick, I lived in Lincoln. My parents are still there.

And stuffies at Sunset? Yet another reason to bow down and call that place Mecca.

I'd been to the one on Boylston, to check them out. I had a burger, and it was divine.

I am also happy to report that they will give you vinegar for your fries.

Even their veggie hot dogs are surprisingly good.

Their curly fries alone suck. Get the JUNKYARD FRIES.

And only get them in small, the all-important chili-cheese ratio on the larges is not as good.

spike's challenge?

Do they have the Spike's challenge here to see how many hot dogs people can eat in 90 minutes (no puking allowed) ?

Oh man, thanks for the update!!

I love Spike's. From my vegetarian perspective, it's the best place for fries b/c they don't cook the fries in the same oil as meat. And the veggie dogs are spectacular. Reading this thread, I realize I have to try celery salt and vinegar on them. Thanks :)

Now there's a comment that gets the point across :).

Went there today. Junkyard fries are, indeed, very tasty (in that need a fork to eat them, need to keep the fork to remove cholesterol from arteries afterward way). Dogs decent, buns large and square and oddly good. The cashier was *awesome* -- energetic and happy and charismatic even though the place was totally buried in customers. Picked up their takeout menu, will convince husband to add it to their workplace's list of lunch options :).

I can't beat sissychrissy1's comment, but.... :-D

I thought the curly fries were great. All the fried goodness of good fries, plus actual potato flavor and texture.

My chili-cheese dog, including the distinctive bun, was excellent too.

Also, the service was good - the line was nearly out the door at 7:30 last night, but they got through it efficiently.

Sigh. I thought "I'll just go in once because it's new." But I don't think I'll be able to resist going back.

I loved the fries as well! I usually dislike curly fries because they tend to be coated in various crap, but these were potato all the way. I guess that's why some people don't like them. :)

I thought the veggie dog itself was kind of bland -- definitely needed some spicing up -- but I still enjoyed the meal.
