Hey, look, Spike's is finally open.
Jun. 22nd, 2006 02:51 pmI ate a hot dog from Spike's and it was pretty good.
They use real cheese! And the buns are huge, square, and oddly tasty.
Curly fries were only OK though.

Date: 2006-06-23 01:37 am (UTC)Where you from?
I am from West-uh-lee.
Can you say "Rocky Point?"
Or was that before your time?

Date: 2006-06-23 01:47 pm (UTC)I used to live in Warwick very close to Rocky Point, and went there at least a couple times a summer, for the couple of years I was there. I was so sad when they closed that crappy old place down. Before and after the years in Warwick, I lived in Lincoln. My parents are still there.
And stuffies at Sunset? Yet another reason to bow down and call that place Mecca.

Date: 2006-06-22 08:30 pm (UTC)I love Spike's. From my vegetarian perspective, it's the best place for fries b/c they don't cook the fries in the same oil as meat. And the veggie dogs are spectacular. Reading this thread, I realize I have to try celery salt and vinegar on them. Thanks :)

Date: 2006-06-23 07:34 pm (UTC)Went there today. Junkyard fries are, indeed, very tasty (in that need a fork to eat them, need to keep the fork to remove cholesterol from arteries afterward way). Dogs decent, buns large and square and oddly good. The cashier was *awesome* -- energetic and happy and charismatic even though the place was totally buried in customers. Picked up their takeout menu, will convince husband to add it to their workplace's list of lunch options :).

Date: 2006-06-23 02:09 pm (UTC)I thought the curly fries were great. All the fried goodness of good fries, plus actual potato flavor and texture.
My chili-cheese dog, including the distinctive bun, was excellent too.
Also, the service was good - the line was nearly out the door at 7:30 last night, but they got through it efficiently.
Sigh. I thought "I'll just go in once because it's new." But I don't think I'll be able to resist going back.

Date: 2006-06-23 10:08 pm (UTC)I thought the veggie dog itself was kind of bland -- definitely needed some spicing up -- but I still enjoyed the meal.
