A big shout out and thank you to the individual who slashed my car's tire last night. Not only did you slash mine, but you slashed my girlfriend's roommate's, as well as at least 4 other cars' on Holland St.

What a great way to spend my holiday. Calling in police reports, waiting for AAA, trying to determine if my insurance actually covers tire slashings, figuring out where to buy new tires on the cheap. Life is grand.

I hope that sometime in the very near future I get to show you my appreciation in person.

You don't have comprehensive insurance? That is probably the cheapest part of auto insurance.

The best place to buy tires is online at Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com/). The prices are great and they'll deliver cheaply to your house or mechanic's.

i was going to suggest the same. they deliver super-quick, too (it was 2 days when we ordered, but we didn't need them in a hurry so there could be faster options). and no local place up here on the north shore could come reasonably close. it's most likely cheaper to get them shipped and find alternate transportation until they come in. we got 4 blizzaks already mounted and balanced on new rims for somewhere in the $400 range.

Comprehensive prorates the tires based on mileage. I had my tires slashed around 6 months ago on Orchard St. and AAA prorated them down below my deductible and then promptly denied my claim.

If you have four wheel drive you must get both tires replaced (front or back are paired). I had three slashed so I had to get all four replaced. I kept the good rubber on the last one and eventually I'll get a cheap rim to mount it on for a full size spare.

Wow, that sucks. Can you remember what the milage and model of the tires was, and what they valued them at?

And AAA does insurance? I thought they just did road service and discounts and such

AAA only resells Commerce Insurance in MA. I used to have my insurance directly from them (MI) so I keep thinking that they are the suppliers :)

My tires were slashed at half life, approx 30,000, so they would only pay around $300 for the four when they are valued at over $600.

When I was in MI any thing that happens to your vehicle when you are not in it. e.g. someone hits it and runs, break ins, vandalism, has no deductible. Even better was the fact that if you were in it and got into an accident with another AAA member both deductibles were waived. I only paid around $400/year over there now I'm paying around $2400/year for less service and the same driving record (two tickets, no accidents)

Sorry to hear it. Last week I managed to find a guy crouched in the front seat of my car, having just broken the window to get in. This was right in front of my place on Pearson Ave at 11 pm at night.

Much to my surprise, the Somerville police were pretty awesome.

Oh, and yes, I unlocked the door and he was taken from my car and arrested.

Ugh, that completely sucks!

Even when insurance covers that sort of thing, I find myself getting irritated that the perpetrators will most likely never be caught, and I'm not even normally a vindictive person.

Why do you think people do things like this? The only time I've ever had any inclination to damage someone's car was when they had done something really obnoxious, like park on the sidewalk or something. However, I don't think damaging someone's car is a very effective way to encourage someone to be more respectful...

I also so greatly appreciated that start to my 4th, finding two of my tires slashed (I'm now thinking you might live in my building? I'm the girl on the 1st floor who got hit by this). It was fantastic! Really!
