Don't feel horrible. I want a hybrid of Someday and crepes. Someday's food was horrid but it's atmosphere was cool. I wish crepes and cool could be interfaced.
I spoke to Peter Creyf after the meeting on Sunday and he fully intends to run the Crepe Store as an informal eatery and coffee place. He said he wants to have art on the walls (he did in the old place). He said he wants to serve great coffee. He said he will hire great staff (he did in the old place). He said the music will be cool (it was in the old place). He regretted not getting that point accross.
I think it may be possible to have the best of both worlds: A great eatery with a reliable lineage, a welcoming coffee shop with wireless and great pastries and a well maintained and clean addition to Davis Square.
The only price to pay is the loss of the Someday location and heritage, dirty carpets and sofas and more likely, the need to spend a bit more during your stay.
The Someday as a co-op can come back to the Square if we want it to, and it will take determination but I think Mr. Crepe is here to stay. It may be time to welcome him back.
i'd also like deli haus to come back :/ and maybe a pony.
for whatever odd reason, i am mostly lacking in the coffee house appreciating gene...i like them in theory but aside from curious liquids i've never really been totally won over by a coffee house. is mr crepe a chain?
the guy who owns it has one chain already - something about waffle houses in ski chalets, or something like that; he was very open and outspoken about his desire to turn mr. crepe into a franchise.
damn i loved curious liquids. and i'd give a kidney to get deli haus back. :P
I actually don't remember him saying anything about a Mr. Crepe chain. I thought he was just talking about adding more Waffle Haus locations through franchising.
no, he was definitely talking about expanding mr. crepe through franchising. that was part of his whole deal about having to reopen mr. crepe ASAP instead of waiting until (say) spring.
he was convinced people were going to try and copy his idea, in which case he could offer them franchising opportunities if he had mr. crepe up and running; else, if he *didn't* have mr. crepe back in business, his competitors would be able to take over the crepe market.
I didn't take that from what he was saying about his schedule. I thought he was saying he had to stay one step ahead in his *other* business, where he currently enjoys a defacto monopoly in a niche he created. (Hence the going on about the NYT (or was it WSJ?) article.)
It's a black-and-white image, not text, so it should display the same on every computer. If it is displaying less than full size, click on this link to see it all by itself.
You have posted a large picture with images of characters on it. It takes time to load, cannot be cut-and-pasted from, and will not be found and indexed by search engines. And as a large picture, it should properly be behind an lj-cut.
You would more effectively serve your cause if you made the efort to transcribe the text appearing in this large picture, and posted the actual text instead.
Obviously the Buck-a-Book space is now vacant. Of course it's too big for Someday. But what about something like a bookstore/cafe along the lines of Porter Square Bookstore (except with a first-class coffee house) in that space?
