I'm not being one of "those" people, but I just saw three fighter jets fly in formation over Somerville. They were coming from the northwest (likely Hanscom) and flying toward downtown. Likely reasons are general training stuff, or something at the Red Sox game -- maybe honoring the Congressional Medal of Honor people? RedSox.com had no info.

Thought I'd post this to fend off any "omg jets wtfz0rz" posts. I actually just think planes are cool, and I like wondering where they're going. :-)

I heard them as I was getting out of my taxi from grocery shopping. I tried to be cool and not acknowlege it so my taxi driver (who was very possibly a Shark) wouldn't think I was a wuss.

When you're a Jet,
Let 'em do what they can...

It was a Fenway fly-over. Unfortunately, the only bombs dropped were by the Devil Rays. It was a long night and we bailed by the 7th inning.

They were probably coming from Pease. I work at Hanscom and we don't have any planes on station, nor did we have any transient aircraft on site yesterday. I wish I had seen them though. I love fighter jets.

My friend called and told me that he saw them. He identified them as A-10's, which struck us both as kind of ominous -- those things exist for no reason except to turn pieces of ground into hell on earth and strew radioactive waste hither and thither. I'm glad it was just a flyover and not some freaky MOUT exercise.

hey could be worse - could be like the Air Show in Chicago: annual weekend waste of $$ with constant sonic booms and flyovers. Ugh.

The USAF has a search page so you can find out what approved flyovers there are, when, and for what. Unfortunately they remove the info the day after the event, so you can't easily go back to look at previous events.

Hey, I saw those too, and was wondering what was going on!

Thanks for asking.

Thanks for that link, I'm a rather big airplane junkie and this'll be handy.
