laundromats

well folks, i just broke down and brought my clothes to a wash and fold place (about a dollar a pound), due to the insane hours of my local laundromat on college ave. they close at 5:30 on weekdays, are closed on sundays, and close fairly early on saturday.

are there any other local laundromats that might allow me to do some laundry in the weekday evenings or sunday?

What about the one on College Ave. at Powderhouse Circle next to the Broken Yolk? They used to be open late when I lived over there.

I go to the Highland Laudromat between the Gulf station and the consignment shop on Highland Ave near Willow. They're open daily until 9pm, do wash/dry/fold (I'm too much a miser to ever take advantage, though), dry cleaning, etc in addition to being quite a large coin-op place. Nice older couple that runs the place, and one of them is always there if a machine breaks or you need quarters or whatever.

There seem to be lots and lots of coin-op places around, so if this one's far from you, I'm sure somebody else can suggest one closer.

If you're willing to roll down to the Porter Square end of Elm Street, the Landr-O-Mat (sic) at the intersection of Elm and Somerville Ave is open until 1am every night. It's actually a nice place with a friendly staff.

Maybe we're talking about the same place, but I recall there being one on Somerville Ave, just across from Belmont Street (which is really close to where you mention), that was a fair bit cheaper than other places.

I just started going to this one. At first they seem very expensive, until you realize that drying is included in the price. With that in mind, their prices are pretty good, and I've gotten to like the idea of the smart cards ... no worries about saving up quarters all the time.

There's at least one on Broadway just west of Teele Square.

That's Clarendon Laundromat and they are wonderful. Last wash goes in at 8pm, last dry at 8:30, every night.

there's the one on Broadway in Ball Square, near the White Hen. It's pretty crap-tastic in my opinion, but I keep going because it's cheap and really close to my house. (Admittedly, I have yet to find a laudromat that I think cleans clothes well enough). They don't post hours, but they generally lock the door between 9 and 10. You can still get out when it's locked and they will leave people in there, so they don't care when it goes in to the dryer. If it's after closing and someone is still in there, they'll usually let you in. I've seen people start laundry after 10 and prop open the door so it's effectively an all-night place sometimes.

Which place on College Avenue closes at 5:30? The only one I know of around there is next to the Broken Yolk, and their last wash is at 9 pm. I just wandered by it tonight and it was definitely still open at 8:30.

are you talking about that laundry/dry cleaning place right near the roast beef place? i've always wondered about it. i knew they had washing machines but they never seemed open. hmm.

i like north cambridge laundromat on mass ave on the bike path. they're really nice there, mom and pop, and do wash & fold (and also some hemming or tailoring if you need it).

When my building's washers and dryers are too busy, I use the laundromat on the south side of Mass. Ave. just west of Hollis Street. I think that's different from the one mentioned above, since it's unstaffed and just has machines.
