Here's the list of participating businesses:

Blue Shirt Cafe - 10% off

Bostonian Florist - 15% off floral arrangements

Chinook - 10% off non-sale items

City Sports - 10% off, not combined with other offers or 2nd pair of shoes

Dave's Fresh Pasta - 10% off fresh ravioli and sauces

Diva - 10% off food

Hillside Auto - 5% off, $50 maximum

Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway - 10% off

JP Licks - 5% off

Johnny D's - $5 off admission

Kebab Factory - 15% off food

On the Hill Tavern - buy one daily special, get 1 at 1/2 price

Pemberton Farms - 10% off plants and garden supplies only

Redbones - 20% off food bill only, does not include bar or gratuity

Rudy's Cafe - 10% off all food

Sacco's Bowl Haven! - free rental of 2 pairs of shoes

Soleil Cafe - free beverage w/ purchase of meal

Somerville Theatre - 1 free small popcorn w/ 1 adult movie ticket

True Grounds - free medium coffee w/ purchase of lunch sandwich

Urban Gourmet - 10% off food, not valid on deliveries

To the best of my knowledge, all these businesses are local to Davis, with the exception of Pemberton.

Anyway, proceeds go to the Brown School PTA to pay for things like fieldtrips and school supplies. And it's a great way to support local business!

The discounts last until August 31, 2007, and you can use the card once a day at each place until then.

I love this card. I probably make my money back on popcorn at the Somerville Theatre alone.

This card is totally worth the money. The card definitely pays for itself over the course of the year, once you get used to using it. It's great that it all goes to a good cause.

Well, only the $10 goes to the good cause. Which makes one ask, why is the card so cheap? Do the businesses donate the discounted amount to the Brown School? You could easily rack up hundreds of dollars of savings for your $10 donation, but the school still only gets the $10 and not the hundreds.

So...the businesses should agree to offer a discount to help the school sell the cards...then, on top of the discount, they should also donate an amount equal to that discount? So they lose twice as much money? I'm not really getting your point.

Well, *you're* getting the discount, not the businesses. So I doubt they donate effectively double.

It might be interesting to study if they'd sell more than half as many cards for $20, or more than a tenth for $100. And whether fewer discounts would do it.

It's awesome publicity for the businesses. Not only do they encourage people who buy the cards to shop there, but they get their names out to everyone in the community who considers buying one, plus all the students, parents, faculty, and staff at the school -- and all for no more discount than most of them already make available through loyalty cards, punch- or stamp-cards, or coupons.

I buy this card every year. Although now that the Someday Cafe is closed, I haven't used this year's card yet ;-(

City Sports is in the otherwise-Japanese mall in Porter Square.
True Grounds and Urban Gourmet are in Ball Square.
Rudy's and Soleil Cafe are in Teele Square.
Kebab Factory is at Beacon and Washington.
I don't know what or where On The Hill Tavern is -- someone know more?

On the Hill Tavern is located at Broadway and Medford streets - across from the CVS there, just up Broadway from Hill Side Auto.

Not sure what area of Somerville that would be classified as ...
