If you wished to rent a tuxedo for a very small amount of money in the Cambridge/Somerville area, where would you do so? And, at the place that you have in mind, what exactly would you spend to rent it for a 24-48 hour period?

Check out Keezer's (http://www.keezers.com/html/directions.html) in Central Square.

I recently dealt with Men's warehouse for Tux rentals. There is one in medford (though not easily T accessible) there is also one down town.

Expect to spend around $120 (with tax and such) or so if you rent from there. They were convenient because we had to have many people renting from various locations. They did screw up one of the ties so that was a bit frustrating. Im not sure if I would strongly recommend them (though everything worked out) but that should give you a price point.

It is cheaper to buy a tux, than rent one 3 times.

Even less, if you can managed to get a used tux. Try the Garment District or similar.

Having said that, rentals are usually for 2-3 days, and run from 75-125$ for a standard tux (Pants, Shirt, Tie, Vest/Cumberbun, and Dinner Jacket). A little more for a Morning Suit or Tails, or something unusual (Mandarin coat). Tuxedo Jacket and Kilt will run you closer to 200$, plus a little more for standard additions there. Also, its harder to find.

There is also a Men's Wearhouse in the Cambridgeside Galleria (there is also a Mr. Tux there). Depending on the style, Men's Wearhouse is much cheaper, though Mr. Tux does have more wacky colors available. We used Men's Wearhouse for our wedding, and the tuxes started at about $80. We had a really good experience with them (even though my husband's tux was not there on the day it was supposed to be, they overnightes the tux, which was good). Peggy was really great to work with.

At Keezer's, if you're willing to put up with moderately smelly polyester, you can get a tux with shoes, cufflinks, studs, and cummerbund for $65. You get it for 4 days.

To expand on this - I didn't notice anything "moderately smelly" nor anything overly polyester about it, but you do sort of need to be willing to go with "what have you got in my size at the moment?" That's only a problem if you're trying to particularly match three groomsmen or something, though, and even then they get darn close.

Oh, and for only another $10-15 (I've forgotten), you can get tails.

Go with Keezer's. Definitely.

The only tux they had in my size was polyester (nice and scratchy) and the whole place definitely smells like mothballs, and after a few hours of wearing the tux, I did too. Of course, if they need mothballs, there must be some non-polyester suits in there...
