Davis T station has been Charlie converted

As of this morning, the Davis T station has been converted to Charlie gates.

I'm just interested in seeing how the Charlie gates handle the EXODUS when a quarter-bazillion Somervillains are exiting all at once.

That doesn't seem to be a problem at much busier stations such as Park Street, South Station, and others where they are already installed.

I've been annoyed at South Station with floods of people trying to come out while I'm trying to get in. You feed your card through, and a flood of people walk through the other way -- make sure you shove through, or you'll have to wait 20 minutes for your pass to work again.

It might have been nice to have a few dedicated exits.

I havn't had any trouble exiting park street as I usually exit via the big iron exit-only turnstile thing on the opposite side of tremont st. and don't have to wait for a door to open; or cross the strret for that matter. I have on the other hand, come close to having trouble entering there while throngs try to leave.

Fortunately, the gates stay open when a bunch of people are leaving, rather than closing between each.

They're dumb, but not that dumb.

The gates don't close in between people who are exiting. It's only on entrance where they don't open properly.

They also seem to stay open if a steady stream of people are inserting tickets, one behind another.

I've heard a couple reports already that folks are fare-dodging at unmanned entrances by just trailing people with tickets.

I was walking too close behind someone at the unmanned gate at Central today and a buzzer sounded, so I don't know how possible that is. Yes, physically possible, but you'd have to be brazen about it and willing to have everyone give you annoyed looks for setting off the buzzer.
