Just moved

Hi all! I just moved into the Davis Square area. Actually it's closer to Powderhouse Circle (Square?) and Ball Square but I guess those are part of the "greater Davis Square area". Anyway, I've visited Davis Square a number of times before, but I only know a few places: Redbones, Blue Shirt Cafe, Your Move Games, Disc Diggers, McIntyre & Moore, etc. Last night I wanted to find an Italian restaurant to take my visiting family to, but I had to Google for a while before finding Antonia's (which I highly recommend, by the way). Is there some sort of Davis Square business directory online anywhere? In particular, right now I need to find a place to buy cables (coax and ethernet) and a place to fix or replace a lamp (one of those tall ones that points at the ceiling). Any suggestions? Thanks!

basically you have your choice of Mike's-I can describe it as "greasy restaurant" or Antonia's, right next to store 24 and jp lick's (shuddeR).
I'd suggest best buy at the cambridge side galleria for your purchases perhaps, take the 87 or 88 bus right from the square.

For a local restaurant directory, including menus, try the TuftsLife homepage (www.tuftslife.com, which links to www.tuftslife.com/dining). I haven't spent much time looking for other businesses, but it has definitely come in handy for an emergency meal or two.

In terms of your current needs, there's a hardware store on the corner of Boston Ave and Winthrop/Curtis Street (it changes names on the Medford/Somerville border) and also Tags (home store upstairs, hardware store downstairs) at Porter Square. They could be helpful if you don't want to hit the mall just now.

The Savannah Grille is good, too, for Italian/Mediterranean food. Really good calamari there.

Found a nice business directory on the website of the Somerville Chamber of Commerce. (http://www.somervillema.org/directory.html) It doesn't organize things that well (can't pull out just Davis Square entries), but it lists street addresses so you can always use Mapquest (http://www.mapquest.com) to quickly locate things.

Unique Restaurant

If you're looking for a unique restaurant to bring friends or family to in the Davis Square area, I highly recommend the House of Tibet Kitchen. (http://ae.boston.com/dining/restaurant/104) I went there last weekend for the first time and brought my brother. I've never had Tibetan food before. The whole experience was totally unique and satisfying. Very subtle flavors, great atmosphere, cheap prices...I was impressed. And there's even a Buddhist resource center right next door.
