The plywood on Urban Gourmet's windows has been spray-painted "we will open soon", but it looks like it might be a while. There's been a crew in there doing some work the last few days, but the place has been gutted to the studs.

It may be a while, but just knowing they're planning on re-opening makes me happy.

Yeah, that "we will open soon" has been painted on there for at least a month. The plywood looks warped from rain. I do miis their salads, though.

Yeah, they've been taking forever fixing UG so far. Right now it's completely empty. They initially said it would be a few months, but it never seems to work that way.

There's a lot of plywood up in Ball Sq these days. Has anyone else noticed what they're doing to the old Ball Sq seafood place? It's gutted, and I heard their turning it into a new seafood restaurant. It looks like their putting lots of big windows in too.

They are renovating the whole side of the building all the way back down towards Rogers Ave. The owner said they are putting a seafood restaurant in there. He recently bought the whole building, and he used to have a restaurant somewhere else before. It's a pretty big building that goes way back, and it looks like there are new large windows going in towards the back (but I'm only speculating on that). I think they're expanding the liquor store into the other side, where the salon was.

Yes! I asked Jaime at Sound Bites how soon "soon" was and he said that they're hoping for a month or so. Although, I said, contractors are unpredictable, and he agreed.

As for the former Ball Square Seafood, he's annexed the formerly-a-dance-studio in the back, and it'll be about ten tables, reports the wife (about three months ago, so they may well have changed plans).

I snuck around to the back of the building to see the new concrete, and if they could get a permit, there's even a pretty little area in the back for an outside table or two (although I'd have trouble figuring out where the dumpsters would go, in that case).
