Love, love, love Deborah James at http://www.childrensgardenpeds.com/. They're in the Sancta Maria medical complex on Concord Ave just up from Alewife. She just started her own practice, but has another pediatrician in the same office that will cover 24-hr phone support. We've seen him once when she was out of town and like him too. We love that she's always super, super, super friendly and happy. (This may seem like a little thing, but somehow makes a big difference, especially when you're exhausted from a newborn or a sick baby.) She's smart and good at talking with you and explaining things to you in a conversational way while respecting your intelligence. We really like her attitude towards health and medical decisions. For example, she's generally pro vaccine, but also pro thinking about the pros and cons of each one and not just doing something because "you're supposed to." She has a very common sense approach to taking care of kids and genuinely loves them. My husband says he thinks she's the best doctor he's ever dealt with. We love her.
You win! Your review pushed a lot of my good buttons, so my husband interviewed her and thought she was great. (And apparently she has the "Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes" plaque! Yay Latin nerds.) Thanks for the recommendation :).
We've liked the pediatric group at Harvard Vanguard on Cambridge Street (near Darwin's)- particularly Dr. Kruger. Harvard Vanguard is a little corporate but the docs seem to take care with the wee ones.
We really like Dr Kruskal at Harvard Vanguard in Davis Sq. He's got several young children, so he's got real life experience. I've never had a problem getting referals to specialists, and he doesn't over-use antibiotics. The practice is open on weekends for urgent care visits, and all of the Dr's we've seen there have been good.
I was a patient there before having a child and wasn't thrilled with the practice, although I know many people who are (it's a VERY busy place).
If you're comfortable with a family practice, rather than a pediatrician, I highly recommend both Dr. Martin and Dr. Fishman at Somerville Family Practice. At 1020 Broadway, it's also extremely convenient (a few minutes walk) to Davis Square.
My husband and I (no kids yet) go to Davis Square Family Practice and they go above and beyond. They have kept me out of the ER once because of their quick follow-up, and Dr. Berschel is incredibly caring and easy to talk to - she has answered questions outside of business hours and that sort of thing. Dr. B is my "official" PCP but often they just slot you with whoever's available - everyone is good and I appreciate that you can always get an appointment.
