Hi folks,
I took a cab from Davis Sq to Logan once upon a time. It was with Planet Tran and I absolutely loved the experience. When I found out that I am allowed to call a cab to Logan for a business trip, I checked their website to get another quote - this time it's going to cost me $59. I don't think there is any way I can explain why a trip from Davis Sq to Logan costs $59, so I may have to go with either Yellow or Green.
So which would you recommend? Yellow or Green (or Cambridge)? I'm looking for a morning ride.
Thanks!

Last time I called for a cab, I called green cab, but actually I think they're the same company or share phone #'s now.

Last I heard, Yellow = Green (same company).

They're the same company, but I call green cab because they're more iconic to Somerville, which is as good a reason as any

cambridge cabs suck. They've often tried to overcharge me, and it's not been uncommon for them to take very long routes to get to the airport. When I lived in Cambridge, I'd often call a somerville cab for a trip to the airport. Oddly, my bill was often $10 less than it was taking a Cambridge cab.

I usually called Green. I agree that I think Green and Yellow are the same company.

Red Line to Silver Line actually worked well for me the few times I've had to do it. Costs only $1.25 and might even be faster than the cab at some times of day.

It took an hour and a half the one time I did it. Ugh. Getting to the airport from WALTHAM opn public transportation was faster.

I concur.

That's worked well for me, but I've also had to be at the airport early in the morning before public transportation is running, making a cab necessary. I used Green and was happy with the service—the driver was punctual, he used an efficient route, and it wasn't TOO expensive (I almost never take cabs, so anything more than a T fare seems steep to me).

So, do you think your company would pay $59 for Planet Tran to the airport, if you took the T on the return trip, costing them nothing (or next to nothing?)

Looking at the flat rates for taxi's from cambridge hotels (near the bottom of http://www.cambridgema.gov/License/faq.html ), the flat rate from hotels in harvard square currently is about $40. I don't think you'll do much better than that from davis. Not that I have much experience with cabs. The last time I took a cab was to get out to the store where I had just bought a new bicycle.

I take the green from Davis to the airport frequently. It's usually less than $30.

I took the Green to Logan on Monday. $28 and I was door to door in twenty minutes (of course this was at 5:30AM, so adjust for rush hour.

You might want to call and double check the quote. It includes gratuity, and it might be for a lexus suv instead of a prius.

Green is Yellow...

...and Cambridge Cab does suck. Green & Yellow Cab merged years ago, but are still separate business entities for tax & monopoly purposes. (In general Yellow Cabs are company owned, many Green cabs are driver or broker owned.) All calls to Yellow or Green go to the same dispatcher, and you can get either cab. Reservations gladly accepted for Logan runs - that means the call goes out 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time, so they might be there a little early (keep your eyes peeled).

Former Green cabbie, signing off.

I always go with Metro Cab. Very efficient, usually about $38 to Logan from Davis Square.
