Where can one drop off spare clothing in the Davis area? Donations, consignment (other than Poor Little Rich Girl, and bonus points if the place doesn't require an appointment 4 months down the line), etc?

Not to say you shouldn't still try, but my experience was different -- they accepted about 15 items from me and sold about 3, and since the check was only $28 they didn't automatically mail it to me; I had to go ask them for it. I never got the rest of my items back because I forgot there wouldn't be a reminder call to come pick them up after 60 days, which meant I I forfeited them. I totally accept that this was my own fault and I do understand why they have that policy, but it wasn't a very good experience all things considered, esp. considering how long I had to wait to get an appointment in the first place. I just hope they gave my stuff that they didn't sell within the 60 days to charity. Just to clarify though, I still love them and shop there all the time, I just wouldn't try consigning there again. I'd try Garment District except their consigning hours conflict 100% with my working hours, which makes it tough to get an appointment. Sigh. Goodwill it is.

I had a great experience at PLRG.

They accepted about 25 things from me, I believe I made about $150. Which is WAY more than I anticipated.

The Garment District does not consign any longer, they are buying outright. 30 or 35% of the selling price I believe, I suppose you have to trust that they are being truthful with the selling price they tell you.

I schedule ahead with PLRG, everytime I call there the owner remembers me, and if I have to wait a little while she is very apologetic. I've seen the appointment book up close (while booking) and it's shocking how many people she is juggling appointment wise.

All and all I would say if you need low cash quick call the Garment district. If you want to make some quality cash call PLRG. Really really high end stuff, call The Closet on Newbury street.

Thanks for the info about Garment District, I should try that. I certainlybelieve that other people have had good experiences with PLRG -- and it wasn't even that mine was a bad experience, just really unsuccessful. So obviously it's not the same for everyone who tries it.
