i just realized my dilemma- i've got a 6:40am flight on thursday and i'm wondering how i'll get there on time, being a slave to the T without a car.

what is the cheapest cab/transportation to get someplace eaaarly?

Cheapest would be to bribe a reliable and early-rising/nocturnal friend. Otherwise, all the cabs around will charge you about the same. Call the night before for a pickup in the am and they'll give you a price quote.

Post an entry on the craigslist rideshare board. Perhaps you're not alone in your quest.

You could use a shared van service like the Airporter. Cheaper than a cab, but you'll have to stop and pick up other people, so the ride will take longer (and you'll have to get up earlier).

The cheapest way is to go to the airport the night before while the T is still running and sleep at the airport. It's not what I would choose, though.

Oh dear. Well, given the new security measures and the ensuing bottlenecks, you will need to be at the airport no later than 5:40 AM, and even earlier if it's an international flight. Unless you've got a friend willing to drive you, it's worth it to spring for a taxi. Plan for traffic -- I'd say 4:45 AM would be about right for your taxi pick-up. Better to err on the side of early than miss your flight, like I've done.

For that time and day, there will be little traffic and likely no lines--I've gone through the same process too many times.

But anyhow, unless you're really poor I would just take the cab. The effort and inconvenience of alternative methods are really not worth it.

Eco taxis!

Call Planet Tran (www.planettran.com) or get a free quote online. I pay about $30 to get to Logan from Union Square. I think that's roughly equivalent to what, four rides on the T now?

Worse comes to worse, if you gotta call a regular cab - I would recommend Green Cab. So far I've always had fun, interesting drivers that can zip past a lot of the traffic going to Logan.
