I'm helping spread the word about two commercial properties available to rent in Davis Square. I'm not the owner or the landlord. I'm just trying to help the landlord get the word out. (soon-to-be former home of Magpie. we're moving down the street.)

Both of them would be great for retail, office, salon, etc. They are both ground level with nice big storefront windows. Private parking lot adjacent to building. Basement storage. Just a few minutes walk from the Davis Square T Stop.

We're moving to 416 Highland -- where Poor Little Rich Girl used to be. We're so excited! It's twice as big! Saturday March 3rd will be our Grand Re-Opening.

I really don't know anything about what else he's up to or involved in. We never had any unpleasant interactions with him in the 2 years we rented from him.

I don't know about any of his other rentals but our rent didn't get doubled. We just really needed more space and PLRG's space is in a much a better location. :) We feel very lucky to have landed the PLRG space.

congrats! I've been eyeing the Comiczi space each time I pass by as a place to have a temporary gallery/exhibit space while it is still vacant but I haven't done anything about it as yet. Sort of the "This Space For Rent Gallery." Maybe when the current storm of deadlines pass I'll get on the phone to the landlord.

third spaces

The more, the better, I say. I'm wondering what might be useful - another little bakery with seating? an art gallery with coffee and seating?

If people ever stop drinking coffee, the Square is in trouble! Then again, if people stop drinking coffee, the world is probably ending.

I wouldn't get involved with this landlord for a million dollars! Just walk into 'Out of the Blue' and ask anyone there about their experiences with him and why they moved.

Generally speaking I think that any tenant's experience probably depends on how much interaction you need to have with the landlord. We run a very simple operation and are pretty self-sufficient and never needed to ask him to do anything for us. A restaurant such as out of the blue might have had to work with the landlord more on various things through their tenancy.

If you had a good experience with him it's surprising, but that's great. However, I personally wouldn't recommend him to others or solicit tenants for him.

I totally recommend that anyone interested in those spaces talk to current and former tenants who've had more interactions with him than we have.

This new space we're moving to will be our third location. (We had a very brief stint in Huron Village when we first started out.) And the sad fact we've learned is that if you're looking to rent in an area were there's any amt of competition for spaces, the landlord really can really have you over a barrel very easily. In commercial rental situations landlords are not obligated to do very much for you at all as opposed to housing rental situations. It sucks but it's sort of the "cost of doing business" I suppose.
