Luthier near Davis?
Feb. 11th, 2007 10:52 pmHi All,
Just got an acoustic guitar and need to get it setup (adjust action, change strings, stop buzzing etc.) - maybe this is a do it yourself job but I'm completely clueless. I know there are a few guitar shops around. Was wondering if any guitar shop is recommended for working on acoustics - since it seems that rocking bobs and also the shop on highland deal almost exclusively in electric guitars. There are also places up and down mass ave - which ones do good work? Should I just go to the music emporium or is that overkill?
Thanks!

Best guitar luthier in Boston, I wouldn't take an instrument anywhere else. Really great guy too.

Date: 2007-02-12 06:57 pm (UTC)I called up mouradian and since they're only open Mon-Fri 10am-6pm. It makes it tough for me to get there since I'm working away from somerville and leave early and get home late.
I was quoted $65 for a full setup (this was the max but could be less depending on what was actually needed - their minimum is $20)but it seems they're quite busy at the moment so it would take 3 weeks to get my guitar back.
I also contacted Rocking Bob's too - they actually fixed an amp for me once and did a great job. They charge $55 (that's the minimum) and had a turnaround of about 1 week.
I found that guitar center in Danvers (close to where I'm working) has a guy come in on Tuesdays and Friday from 3pm to 6pm and charges $50 and can do the setup while I wait. I'll try that route this time since this seems to be a straightforward thing I need done and I'd like to watch and see what exactly is involved and have my guitar back same day.
I'll definitely keep Mouradian in mind for any serious work though. Seems like a great resource in the area.
