Does anyone know of any businesses in the area that sell Dell accessories. We are looking for a 90W Adapter and have had no luck at Radio Shack or Staples.

Yeah, that's probably your best bet, even though it's not really "in the area"...

CompUSA? OfficeMax? Best Buy? These are all just wild guesses, I'm afraid.

there's some sort of computer repair place on the first floor of the Harvard Vanguard medical building, but I have no idea what spare parts they sell, if any.

Compugeeks

Try Compugeeks on Holland, which I think is what Ron was mentioning as being on the first floor of the Harvard Vanguard building. Next to T-Mobile and Au Bon Pain. If he didn't have the part (they do carry some parts) I know for sure he'd know where to get it. Their phone is 617-996-9270.
I recently had my laptop repaired there and can't recommend them enough!

I have a number of Cell laptops at work - my guess is that you are not going to find a manufacturer part locally. However, the iGo would likely do the trick: http://www.igo.com/default.asp?wt.srch=1

It's a universal power adapter, with a number of attachments. I used to use one as my backup laptop adapter for car travel, and it worked quite well. Radioshack should carry them.

you can't buy branded Dell accessories except from Dell, I think.

that's correct. i just went through a whole hooplah with parts of my dell tower dying and dell trying to make me pay over $100 in markup for their "exclusive" parts. buyer beware.
dell will gauge you for a basic part, because most generics won't fit in their computers. OP's best bet is trying ebay, which is what i've done with a lot of success.

and... the power adapter you're looking for (for an Inspiron laptop, right?) has a really bad history of going bad. Lots of complaints from customers having to replace them several times in the first couple years.

Still... if you know the specific model number of the adapter you need, let me know. I have a bin full of parts and power adapters, and a few are Dells. Might have the one you're looking for.

If the above poster doesn't have what you are looking for, I think I have what you need. You can have it if it will work...

i'm on my third new one...it sucks.

Basically you can get an adapter that charges your computer but not the battery at Radio Shack, Comp usa etc.

I bought a my most recent one on ebay for like 25 dollars....i suggest it highly, it costs like 85 or more at dell
