food I SWEAR by it

CAPLOCKS = SoundBites Emperor of Ball Square

Just guessing, really. It could be Broken Yolk, which would be sad because it's yummy.

If Soundbites has muffins, I've not only never had one but never seen anyone eat them. More likely Broken Yolk, cause that's affiliated with the Magnificent Muffins place in Teele, I think.

Wow, that sounds like a heart attack on a plate. I bet they're good that way, too.

i'm pretty sure soundbites has been around a lot longer than 2004.

also, i agree that their muffins rule.

and their scones

although, I indulge less freqently now that I'm more low-carb, but the boston blue and the corn muffin specials were always favorites with me.

(o, and when the stuffed french toast options included quince... which had to have been before 2004...)

Magnificent Muffins, on Broadway in Teele? Not sure how long they've been around, or if they're open for lunch...

They're only open until noon and I rarely see lines there. Renee's maybe?

That seems to fit the other details well.

I was thinking Soleil too, and since they cater, people are certainly buying their muffins by the dozen. Also they are super friendly, the owner has a new kid and they did open in 2004.

I know they make most of their money off the catering business, so I wonder if they're splitting that part off from the restaurant...man, it would be great if they could manage to be open on Sundays someday.

I'll second the fact that SoundBites is much older than 2004.

Yeah, SoundBites was here in 1995 when I moved to Davis. I guess that eliminates it.

I'd bet Cafe Soleil. I'd be more certain if the ad mentioned "we are a cafe that is never open when obie119 wants to go there!"

Seriously! I constantly forget that they close at three, and of course it's always when I'm really in the mood for a good sandwich.

They're open until 4! Run! But call first because sometimes they feel like closing at, say, two.
