You can now park for three hours at lots in Davis Square. Weigh in on the change on our blog.

I wasn't going to chime in, but wow. Did it ever occur to you that there are a lot of people who cannot afford to pay the exorbitant rent charged in areas within walking distance of the T? Now, I live within walking distance of Porter, too. And I do not have a car and do not plan on getting one, because I do agree that in certain cases a car is unnecessary and since I do not need one, I refuse to buy one, as I feel it is wasteful. But I have many friends who are students, non-profit employees, teachers, social workers, etc. who do valuable services for our community but are underpaid and therefore rent further from the T in order to save money, and drive their old, cheap used cars to work not because they want to but because they need to in order to continue doing what they do each day.

Ugh, I almost regret posting this because all we are doing by replying to you is feeding your desire to cause arguments and make yourself the center of attention.

Word.

I recently bought a house near Ball Square, but I'm not under any illusions that it was my teacher's salary that made that possible. Yay for husbands in the computer field. I have no idea how my coworkers -- many of whom are teachers married to other teachers -- manage.

Oh but see? I can afford the rent in Porter Square because I don't have to pay for gas, insurance, oil changes, tune-ups, tires, and parking tickets. And seriously? My rent hasn't changed since 2000. I think the price of owning a car has. Just saying.

Yes. I am extremely fortunate that my landlord is also a friend (more of a big brother or father figure in a way) who is charging me half of what he could be for the apartment because he knows that I can't afford another dime.

The apartment is not T convenient by any means, but I live where I do because it's what I can pay.
